What’s in a story dedication and how can it apply to Lent?
Have you ever written a dedication before? Maybe not for a book but perhaps a project, gift, or even for your child. There is power in the words of a dedication similar to a blessing because it is where your heart -- your wishes, dreams and prayers -- are exposed. In a dedication you try to articulate your hopes and sometimes remember the sacrifices of those who have helped you along your journey to the present. Tomorrow begins the season of Lent. As we journey through this time remembering God’s faithfulness and His promises, perhaps there is something over the course of these next few weeks you desire to dedicate or give back to Him. If so, would encourage you to write your dedication down and present it to Him in prayer. By doing this, it will make us slow down and consider the purpose behind the action.
An example of a dedication~
Detour: Destination Abiding Love
I dedicate this story to every guy and gal who, as Paul states in Scripture, wants to‚ “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Some days running with perseverance seems so elusive! You may carry burdens of guilt and shame… perhaps complacency and doubt is weighing you down, where it’s hard enough just to walk, let alone run. I don’t know what you may be struggling with today, but God does. Because of that, I pray that God may use this story in a special way to touch your heart—for His honor and glory.
