“Can’t see the forest through the trees”

Last Sunday, I had the opportunity to walk to Church. Times like these are so precious to me. I have four miles of Vermont country roads to traverse with only a few cars passing on the way and perhaps a jogger or cyclist every once and awhile. Strange as it may sound, with my feet moving, I’m able to slow my thoughts down and enjoy the presence of God. As I was nearing mile 3 or so, I looked up and saw a beautiful vista of green mountains on the horizon, reaching up towards the vivid blue sky. It was incredible. Yes, we may live in Vermont at the base of Mt. Mansfield but actually, our house has no view of the mountains. Rather, it sits on a little less than a half acre with a rock hill/ledge in our backyard blocking any view. Out of Our front window we can only see the house across the street with a wooded tree line behind them. If I couldn’t leave my house, I would never know what beauty could be found by walking just a few minutes away. Isn’t life like that at times? All we can see is our little half acre (perhaps it’s your cubicle at work, the endless to-do-list, or a trial that you are facing…) and think this is all there is -- and miss out on so much. The beauty that is around us goes unseen and unnoticed. I don’t want to live like that. I want to live in the knowledge and “sight” of God’s extravagant beauty, grace, and freedom that is found in being a child of God. Are you up for the challenge of looking for the beauty in this weeK? I am! -- In light of the above, for my book highlight today, I thought it would be fun to feature an old story I had written years ago, PROFESSOR WAMPUM’S EXPERIENT. Professor Wampum’s Experiment ,is a 19,000 word novel geared towards children ages 8-12. This fun, fictional story is about Stephen Martin, a sixth grade student, his teacher- Mrs. Nelson, and the wacky adventures of minuscule beings, AKA: Itsys. Short Summary: Nobody in Stephen's class can believe his school science project, even though it's based on his great-grandfather's scientific findings. Could there be creatures, smaller than the eye can see, that have brains and a hunger for knowledge and purpose for existing? Indeed, as you’ll see over this action-packed story, such is the case of the colony of Itsys who set off on a quest traveling through two humans in search of these things.
