Creativity With Purpose
This past week Joshua, Jonathan and I had the opportunity to go to the boardwalk with some of our NJ family. What a fun evening it was! The water was beautiful. My brother-in-law and I were amazed at the vivid, different colors the ocean displayed that night, like a blue hued rainbow of turquoise, grey, aqua, tan, and deep blue. I had never seen the water that way before in anything other than pictures. It reminded me what a creative God we have, who delights in beauty.
Speaking of creativity… this Friday I leave for my writing conference! When I stand in awe of the beauty God can make by speaking a word, it can make my writing feel so inadequate. And yet, it is inspiring to consider that He has given us a bit of himself in the desire to create. For some that may be through writing, for others… music, dance, or any other form of art. No matter how you may find ways to be creative, I’m sure like me, some days it feels like we’re spinning in circles. I wonder if I’m getting anywhere with my writing or if it matters at all. Yet, even a record can impact a life with it’s melody and lyrics. The question is; what does my life song sing? Is it a song of joy ~ come what may?
Will an editor or agent be interested in my work? I couldn’t tell you. But as Jeremy’s song, SPINNING LIKE A RECORD says, “We’re a hymn that's fading out - My spark will soon die down - But my tune will - Carry on, carry on" (https://jeremycartermusic.bandcamp.com/track/spinning-like-a-record)
I want my tune to be God is good... ALL... THE... TIME. I may
be spinning and some days feel like the needle is stuck, but God is the master recorder and I can trust that each revolution has a purpose. May the stories I write, and the tune they carry on be to His glory.
