Grace Abounds When I Fail

I recently read Luke 7:36-50. I love this passage of scripture and the heart of Jesus that it shows. He truly is patient with both the host and the woman. Why? Because He cares. He didn’t have to tell Simon why he was allowing the woman to anoint him, but He did so because there was an important lesson to learn -- we ALL sin and fall short of the glory of God. None is righteous… no, not one.

I love to people watch and it seems to me that generally, people are in either one of two camps. They feel as if they live a “good” life and are above sinning and therefore better than the person next to them (such as in the story we just read about Simon) -or- they feel like their sin is too great for God to ever forgive them. (I think about the woman caught in adultery, where the religious people wanted to stone her.) Yet, truth is… we ALL need grace because we ALL fail. Perhaps we can make people think, through our righteous deeds, that we’re good -- but then I need to examine my heart. I can look pretty good on the outside, while decay is happening in my heart, like a nasty cavity that can only be seen with an x-ray. Is there something in your heart today that you need to confess? Perhaps a temptation... or maybe an attitude that is not pleasing to Him. Be still before the Lord and ask Him to search your heart. Let his waves of grace wash over you and cleanse you.
