DAY SEVEN~ Invitation to Live Prayerfully & Rest
Scripture~ Psalm 62
“Truly my soul finds rest in God my salvation comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
How long will you assault me? Would all of you throw me down— this leaning wall, this tottering fence?
Surely they intend to topple me from my lofty place; they take delight in lies. With their mouths they bless, but in their hearts they curse.
Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
Surely the lowborn are but a breath, the highborn are but a lie. If weighed on a balance, they are nothing; together they are only a breath.
Do not trust in extortion or put vain hope in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them.
One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard: “Power belongs to you, God, and with you, Lord, is unfailing love”; and, “You reward everyone according to what they have done.”"

My Lesson~ Sweet Bella is curled up against my thigh as I jot these thoughts down. Her little body is so soft and warm as she rests. She’s now 4 months old and on any given ordinary day, she still has the puppy zoomies, and then as Glenn calls them, “the snoozles”. As long as her “people” are around… or even better, if she’s able to snuggle with one of us, she quickly settles and closes her eyes. Why? She trusts us to protect her when she grows tired. If we’re here, she knows she has nothing to fear.
God invites me to this kind of rest.. a rest that is in Him for He is trustworthy. The future may be uncertain to my limited vision, but my hope can be found in Him and because of that I can rest.
However, (back to Bella) if we have company or the day is filled with activities, people and/or other animals, rather than getting the rest she needs, this pup refuses to close her eyes. Instead of sweet sleep she turns into an over-stimulated, land-shark that becomes more hyper with each passing moment, unable to slow down.
Ouch-- Lord, I see me in this as well. I allow myself to be swept away and my attention focused on so many other things then You. I’m tired, but I try to fix my fatigue with a thousand other things. Instead of resting in your sufficiency, my soul becomes weary as I try to find fulfillment in other things.
Prayer~ Dear God, help me to right size You -- and in turn my circumstances. So often whatever is going on in my life seems so big and You seem so distant and small. Open my eyes to see the truth. That a muffin, or good book, or cup of coffee isn’t what will ultimately sustain me, for only You can truly do that. Help me give my burdens and concerns to You and find Your rest today. In Christ name, Amen.
Invitation~ Find rest in Him. Intentionally set aside time to unplug and focus on Him and His attributes. Knowing He is almighty and all powerful, abide in His sustaining presence. Cast all my cares at the foot of the Cross. (*Commit to making this Saturday or Sunday a day of Sabbath Rest and sweet fellowship with the Savior.)
