DAY THREE - Invitation to live Humbly

Psalm 1 (ESV)

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.

He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. 

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;

for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, 

but the way of the wicked will perish.”

My Lesson~ I’ve been walking Bella, trying to teach her to stay in step with me instead of stopping every two seconds to sniff the grass to see what other friends may have passed by earlier. The idea is simple -- when I say, “watch me” that means it’s time to stay together. However, often she’s feeling a bit lazy or would rather stroll and keep her nose to the ground. Her collar is pulled and tugged and she wrestles with me until I say, “sit”. Once she does that we’re able to start again. The other extreme is when she sees a friend ahead. Oh, how she would rather be at their side than keeping time with me. Again, her collar is pulled as I hold the leash tight in my hand. It’s only when she submits to me and my direction that we finally find our rhythm. When that happens, nothing could be better. There’s no pulling and tugging but rather a sweet time enjoying each other’s company and the opportunity to be outside together.

I was reminded today that this is what my Heavenly father invites me to as well; to walk in step with Him. Why oh why do I so often cause resistance by lagging behind or running ahead of the place He wants me to be? I want to delight in Him and His Word. Yet, the reality though is that I often choose to delight in my own desires and ignore the direction and path He in His wisdom has placed me on. For me to be like a tree planted by streams of water, I only need to stay in step.  

Prayer~ Father, keep me in step with you. Help me to humble myself today seeking Your will above my own. May I seek your direction. Chart the road I take today. For it’s only when I’m walking with you that I will get to the destination You desire for me; the one that leads to life.
